Iran has described the US Navy's rescue of 13 Iranian fishermen held by Somali pirates as a "humanitarian gesture".

It is curious how not a shot was fired and everything was peaceful. I read several stories on it and little detail of the actual boarding and capture of the pirates is included (maybe I missed something?).
The US must have known there was little risk or there would have been more of a standoff situation like the one off the coast of Yemen. Imagine if things got violent and some or all the Iranians were killed, that could have sparked an incident or at least been really really bad international and internal PR. Therefore I think somehow the Navy was either in contact with the pirates and negotiated something or somehow knew that the boarding was low to zero risk.
Need more info.

I hope we will learn more soon from the Iranians who were on board the fishing vessel -- or the Pentagon or U.S. military personnel.
The early news reports all seem to be based on the Pentagon's press releases, which they apparently provided primarily to focus on the humanitarian work toward Iranians, rather than providing the details of the mission.

It's great to read something about Iran's official response to this.
